The Olympia Traverse is right around the corner! Get your team together and take advantage of our increasingly sunny weather and head outside with your kayak, bike, or running shoes! Don’t feel like a spawning salmon? Help our spawners swim up stream by volunteering at a water station or just cheering them on!

We are getting ready for this years CHUM RUN! To prepare for another great year of wild salmon viewing at the trail, we are hosting a Docent Training on Saturday, October 23 at 9:00 a.m.  This annual training keeps our Docent volunteers up-to-date on the latest chum information for sharing with trail visitors.  It lasts for 7 hours, so come prepared for the fall northwest weather possibilities.   Please call Lance at 360/412-0808 Ext 2 to register or for more information.

The Trail will open Monday, November 1 for school groups.  If your school would like to visit the trail during the week, please contact Mason Conservation District at (360) 427-9436 Ext 13.

The general public can visit the Trail starting Saturday, November 6.  The trail will be open, with trained Docents to answer questions, on all weekends in November, Veterans Day and the day after Thanksgiving from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

We received a matching funds grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to fix the viewing platform that was damaged last winter.  We are soliciting donations to help with the match.  Please make a donation on-line or by sending a check or money order.  All donations are tax deductible.

SPSSEG "Chums"

On July 31, 2010, SPSSEG competed in the first annual Multi-adventure race for salmon, the Olympia Traverse.  Our team included two staff members and two Board members.  Although we didn’t win the race, we had a great time supporting the event.   The race featured a 4 mile run completed by Kristin Williamson, 8 mile mountain bike completed by Lance Winecka, 22 mile road bike by Joe Williams, and finished up with a 3.5 mile kayak by Duane Fagergren.  The event eventually ended at Fish Tale Pub for a community celebration, beer and lunch.   For more information please check out the website.  www.olympiatraverse.com.
