Save Salmon Recovery Efforts and RFPGs!
Today Washington state is on the verge of threatening the future of
salmon recovery. The work that Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups
(RFEGs) do throughout Washington State is at risk due to the Senate
Budget bill that has now passed the Senate (ESB 5967) which includes
language that would devastate the RFEG Program. This budget
threatens salmon recovery, the existence of salmon organizations
around the state, and hundreds of direct local jobs and thousands of
indirect jobs supported by salmon fishing and restoration.
Please call/email your Senators and Representatives to request that
the RFEG account remain intact. Tell them why you oppose the budget
language that allows the state to use RFEG dedicated funds (RCW
77.95.090) to pay for hatcheries.
A message you can use is:
”Loss of the RFEG dedicated funding (RCW 77.95.090) in Senate Bill
#5967 threatens the future of salmon recovery, the existence of salmon
organizations around the state, leveraging of millions of dollars of
public and private funds, and the loss of hundreds of professional,
technical and private contractor jobs across the state related to
salmon recovery as well as thousands of indirect jobs related to the
salmon industry. During the budget negotiation process we ask that
you oppose any budget items that use RFEG funds for anything other
than RFEG projects including hatcheries.”
RFEG’s are essential to salmon restoration. Salmon are of economic,
cultural and environmental importance to the citizens of Washington
state. Please act today.
